Mahara appointed as Chief Minister of Lumbini Province

Butwal : The Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has appointed the parliamentary party leader of the Maoist Center Jok Bahadur Mahara as the Chief Minister (CM) of the province.

Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the parliamentary party leader of the Maoist Center in the province, submitted a list of 44 lawmakers supporting him, along with their signatures, to Province Chief Amik Sherchan on Friday.

Under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Province Chief appoints the leader of the parliamentary party commanding a majority in the Provincial Assembly as Chief Minister.

The notice issued by the secretariat of the Province Chief notified the appointment of Jokh Bahadur Mahara as CM of the Province.

Mahara had staked claim to the post of Chief Minister on Friday afternoon. 44 Members of the Lumbini Province Assembly signed in support of Mahara consisting of 29 of CPN (UML), 10 of CPN (Maoist Center), 3 of Janata Samajbadi Party, 1 of (Unified Socialist) and an independent.

The resignation of former Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary on Thursday ensured the appointment new Chief Minister in Lumbini Province on Friday.
