Two sides of coin – Russia and North Korea

Kathmandu,: After decades of conflict, the US and Russia agreed to control North Korea’s nuclear weapons. This agreement has been broken by Russia. Due to Russia protecting North Korea from nuclear monitoring, North Korea has become a major cause of world insecurity and tension by building nuclear weapons in an uncontrolled manner.

Recently, Russia used a veto in the United Nations Security Council to destroy the United Nations panel of experts monitoring North Korea’s nuclear program for the past 15 years. Russia’s displeasure is a new threat to world security. Because earlier Russia welcomed the UN panel’s report on deterrence, North Korea’s nuclear program was considered a global threat. But now Russia has taken a U-turn.

According to the claim made by the U N panel, it has been proven that North Korea is supplying artillery shells and missiles to Russia in the war against Ukraine, and in return, Russia is sending fuel and other goods. Russia’s attack on Ukraine has become beneficial for North Korea. The panel has collected satellite images as evidence.

The breakdown of the UN regulatory panel is proof that Russia does not want the global effort to stop nuclear proliferation. After the Cold War, the partner countries that faced the challenge of Iran and North Korea were America, Russia and China. Iran was on America’s side during the negotiations. He also helped North Korea during the Fire and Fury period of 2016-2017.

During that period, Russia was constantly voting in favor of sanctions against North Korea. But the unity against nuclear proliferation and threats is broken. North Korea’s nuclear facilities also pose a challenge to China and Russia, which has disappeared with the collapse of the panel. Russia has helped save North Korea from sanctions.

Both Russia and China seem to be promoting the accumulation of uranium in Iran. The risk of non-stop proliferation of nuclear weapons has increased Unsurprisingly, Russia and China have rejected proposals to condemn North Korea for its continued missile tests. The disintegration of the expert committee that started work in 2009 has created new pressures. It seems that Russia has done a great job by breaking the panel. After the breakdown of the panel, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the demonstration by the US and its allies is like strangling North Korea.

In other words, Russia agrees with North Korea’s nuclear expansion. Although the committee does not have a large power of investigation, it did an in-depth study on how North Korea’s economic relations expanded and luxury goods reached the North despite the sanctions passed 18 years ago. Russia used vito against panel and killed it. Those who want peace in the world has condemned Russia’s decision, saying that it has undermined international peace and security in a reprehensible way.

The result of Russia’s veto has further encouraged North Korea’s reckless behavior and destabilizing provocations. After testing nuclear weapons for the first time in 2006, it remains a mystery how many nuclear weapons North Korea has produced. Nuclear experts believe there are 50 or 60 weapons. According to an estimate, it may be in the number of 40 to 100.

The situation is not clear in the absence of regulation by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The concern in the world is not the size of the nuclear arsenal. The intention is to misuse nuclear weapons. Experts on North Korea say that it is more dangerous than the war in the Korean Peninsula in 1950.

North Korea has declear South Korea as its main enemy. This declaration abandons the idea of reunification and, like Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Un is preparing for deadly war. According to the world’s weapons experts, Kim Jong Un can press the trigger of Nuclear weapons any time. North Korea’s provocation is regularly warning America, South Korea, and Japan. Like Russia, North Korea has also started talking openly about using nuclear weapons. Because of Russia, North Korea seems determined to disturb the world peace by spreading nuclear weapons.
