Kathmandu : Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that all state mechanisms have been mobilized for the immediate rescue and relief of people affected by the devastating floods.
In a statement shared on social media on Thursday, PM Shah said the government was carrying out rescue and relief operations on an urgent basis amid the disaster. He expressed confidence that Nepal would overcome the crisis through the collective efforts and coordination of the government, Nepalis at home and abroad, and the international community.
Shah said rescue flights began at 6:30 am on Thursday, with additional helicopters kept on standby for emergency operations.
According to the Prime Minister, the Nepali Army successfully rescued 95 Nepali citizens and 21 Indian nationals from Timure, while seven Nepalis were rescued from a tunnel in Haku.
The government is also working to rapidly transport essential relief supplies and equipment to flood-affected areas. Generators, portable mobile towers, medical equipment, tents, and iron- and stone-cutting machines are being sent to areas where rescue and relief operations are underway.
Shah said temporary arrangements would soon be made to restore mobile communication and provide mobile charging facilities, helping affected residents re-establish contact with their families and authorities.
A temporary camp has also been established in Nuwakot, with arrangements for food and drinking water, he said.
The Prime Minister added that information collected through a drone survey was in the final stage of compilation and would help authorities carry out rescue and relief operations more effectively.
Shah said sick and elderly people, women and children would be given priority during helicopter rescue operations.
He appealed to those waiting for rescue and relief to remain patient and maintain restraint, stressing the need for collective efforts to confront the disaster.
“With hope and faith, we all will have to face this disaster together,” Shah said.
