Kathmandu. U.S. President Donald Trump has held talks at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and leaders of various European countries on the issue of ending the Ukraine war.
He met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
No concrete conclusions from the talks have been made public. However, President Trump claimed that progress had been made toward ending the war. From the meeting venue itself, Trump also held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the 40-minute call, Trump said he urged Putin to hold talks with Zelensky, and that Putin expressed his readiness to sit at the table with Zelensky.
After the White House discussions, Trump announced via his social media platform Truth Social that an agreement had been reached for trilateral talks, with the venue and date to be decided later. He also mentioned that the White House meeting involved discussions with Zelensky and European leaders on restoring peace in Ukraine and ensuring Ukraine’s security.
